God comforts us in all our troubles.
(2 Corinthians 1:4)
Note: This was the final entry submitted by Deacon Tom Bello, O.F.S. How appropriate that Tom chose this reading from St. Paul. Tom lived the calling of his Franciscan Heart by bringing the Gospel to life, and by comforting so many in all our troubles. Thanks to Tom for the many gifts he has given to us, and please keep Tom and his family in your prayers. More about Deacon Tom in his bio
The prayer chosen by Tom for his funeral prayer card was the Prayer of St. Francis
“Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
Where there is sadness, joy.
O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
To be consoled as to console,
To be understood as to understand,
To be loved as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
It is in dying to self that we are born to eternal life.”
Sarah McLachlan – Prayer of St. Francis
Tom lived his profession with his Secular Franciscan Order with the all of his strength, love, and joy in the spirit of St. Francis and St. Clare. Thanks Deacon Tom for all your good work for the church.
Final Blessing of St. Francis:
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
May He show His face to you and be merciful to you.
May He turn His countenance to you and give you peace.
May the Lord bless you, Brother Tom.
