Today is the Feast of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, and June is a month devoted the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. The origin of this devotion comes to us from Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque, who said she learned the devotion from Jesus during a series of apparitions to her between 1673 and 1675. Deacon Tom Bello, O.F.S. had a special devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary, and had these images near him in his prayer nook at home.
Following are three quotes on the Sacred Heart of Jesus:
“This divine heart is an abyss filled with all blessings, and into the poor should submerge all their needs. It is an abyss of joy in which all of us can immerse our sorrows. It is an abyss of lowliness to counteract our foolishness, an abyss of mercy for the wretched, an abyss of love to meet our every need.”
Saint Margaret Mary Alocoque
“When disciples of Christ are transparent in heart and sensitive in life, they bring the Lord’s light to the places where they live and work.”
Papal Tweet (Pope Francis on June 1st)
We should daily place our little children into the side of Jesus. We parents should press our lips to his heart and receive the life-giving water of everlasting life. All goodness and life flows from His Sacred Heart.
Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us.
– Saint Bonaventure, Opusculum 3, Lignum vitae, 29-30. 47: Opera omnia 8, 79.
Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
O most holy heart of Jesus, fountain of every blessing, I adore you, I love you, and with lively sorrow for my sins I offer you this poor heart of mine. Make me humble, patient, pure and wholly obedient to your will. Grant, Good Jesus, that I may live in you and for you. Protect me in the midst of danger. Comfort me in my afflictions. Give me health of body, assistance in my temporal needs, your blessing on all that I do, and the grace of a holy death. Amen.
