Today is the Feast of St. Mary Ann of Jesus of Paredes, O.F.S. (1614-1645), the patron saint against illness. St. Mary Ann was a saint of mercy who devoted her life to serving the poor and sick, as a devout Secular Franciscan. She opened a health clinic to serve Africans and Native Americans. It was also told that she worked many miracles through Jesus, including healings, and raising a person from the Dead. Mary Ann was also said to have lived only on The Holy Eucharist for a long period of time. Mary Ann lived in Quito, Ecuador and upon her death, a white lilly sprang from her body, and she was then named the “Lilly of Quito.”
St. Mary Ann — Pray for Us !
Prayer for the Sick
Father of goodness and love, hear our prayers for the sick members of our community and for all who are in need. Amid mental and physical suffering may they find consolation in your healing presence. Show your mercy as you close wounds, cure illness, make broken bodies whole and free downcast spirits. May these special people find lasting health and deliverance, and so join us in thanking you for all your gifts. We ask this through the Lord Jesus who healed those who believed. Amen.
